The system committee “Smart Energy” deals with intelligent energy and control systems consisting of generators, storage facilities, consumers and transport facilities using information, communication and automation technologies. Such smart energy systems enable new market and grid functions and include the interconnection of all energy sources in all sectors, such as electricity, Power2Gas and heat.

DKE/K 901 further develops the topics of smart metering/smart home, smart energy, IT security and grid integration of renewable energies. In doing so, it mirrors the activities of the IEC System Committee of the same name. The goal of the IEC expert team is to create a development plan and a roadmap. The coordination of the topic of energy grids includes not only IEC standardisation, but also external groups and groups involved in standardisation, such as authorities and consortia. In addition, the committee deals with the topic of digitalisation: in particular, blockchains in the energy sector are dealt with by a task force. The expert group of the working group DKE/AK 901.0.1 “Grid integration, load management, decentralised energy generation (NeLDE)” supports the funding project “Showcase for Intelligent Energy (SINTEG)” with a workshop on “flexibility”: The workshop is an expert exchange on concepts and data models of the five SINTEG projects and the current activities of the standardisation experts.

Another focus of the System Committee “Smart Energy” is the cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Federal Office for Information Security, with whom requirements for the smart meter gateway system architecture are being developed. In addition to the consolidated opinion of the German stakeholders, the experts of the system committee also contribute the standardisation activities from european and international expert groups.
